Dr Jeff Sherman, Clinical Psychologist, is the Supervising Psychologist of Edelweiss Private Academy. Dr Sherman brings to the school extensive experience in working with children with ASD and/or additional exceptionalities including ADHD, ODD and learning disabilities. Considered a pioneer in the field of ASD, Dr Sherman provides diagnostic assessment, consultation and supervision of Intensive Behavioural Instruction (IBI) programmes using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) approaches. Dr Sherman has several years’ experience as a professor at the University of Toronto, Faculties of Medicine and Education, and York University. Today he offers workshops and training nationwide.
Dr Sherman holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology and a Masters in Psychology from York University.
Jennifer Wyatt is the Vice Principal and co-founder of Edelweiss Private Academy. Jennifer has extensive experience in assessing children with ASD and/or additional exceptionalities and developing appropriate programs designed to facilitate learning. As Vice Principal, she helps with day to day school operations, including student and staff well-being.
Jennifer has an Honours degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa, focusing on Neuroscience and Rehabilitation, with a minor in Psychology. She also has a Master’s Degree in Psychology, focusing on children affected by ASD at Yorkville University. She has completed post-graduate work in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) from Pennsylvania State University.
After teaching for 31 years in the public education system, Heather retired from the Ottawa Carleton District School Board in June 2013. While with the OCDSB Heather was involved in the creation and delivery of Ministry curriculum as a Math Board Trainer, a Literacy Coach, and a lead writer of the Kindergarten Program curriculum document. She has had extensive experience working with children with various exceptionalities, including autism. Heather has experience teaching Grades JK to 6, in a variety of subjects including Special Education, Core French, Vocal Music and English as a Second Language. Heather has her Primary and Junior Certificate, with Specialist Certificates in Primary Education and Special Education. She also holds additional qualifications in Vocal Music, ESL, and Remedial Reading. Heather has been with Edelweiss Private Academy for the past seven years, as both teacher and principal. This year she leaves the classroom and will fulfill the role of principal only.
Deborah Wyatt is a co-founder of Edelweiss Private Academy. As a previous associate to Dr. Jeff Sherman, Clinical Psychologist, she has extensive experience in performing child assessment as well as developing programs for children, youth and adults with exceptionalities such as anxieties, depression, autism spectrum disorders, ADD and ADHD etc.. She has also provided coaching and tutoring for children with ADD or ADHD and training for parents with children with ASD and/or additional exceptionalities.
Deborah graduated from Wilfred University with an Honours degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education focusing on children with exceptionalities, as well as a minor in Psychology. More recently, Deborah graduated from Pennsylvania State University after completing post-graduate coursework in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
Deborah’s mission when beginning Edelweiss Private Academy was to continue serving children with autism spectrum disorders and other exceptionalities in order to provide them with the best educational services possible.
